Google App Joins the 5 Billion Downloads Club

Google’s eponymous mobile app has reached 5 billion downloads on the Google Play Store, the third Google app to do so.
It joins YouTube and Google Maps in achieving this milestone. (And Play Services, which is essential for any Google Play Store-related activities.) Actually, Google Maps just hit 5 billion downloads as well, just a few days ago. YouTube hit 5 billion downloads in December.
Google’s ability to attain so many downloads is likely related to the fact that the Google app is preinstalled on Android phones. But the firm has seen great success across a wide range of apps, many of which are simply popular in their own right. Apps like Duo, Google Play Games, Google Photos, Google Play Music, Google Play Movies & TV, and many others have all passed the 1 billion download mark so far.
I believe that the top third-party apps, by download, are all between 1 and 5 billion. Facebook, for example, is listed as 1 billion+, as are WhatsApp and Instagram.
Thanks to Android Police for alerting me to this milestone.
