LG appears set to unveil several new high-end smartphones with Dual Screen functionality and tiny display cutouts at the IFA trade fair in Berlin next week, but at the same time, the company will also showcase the K50S and K40S mid-rangers, as well as domestically release the premium-looking Q70.
Unfortunately, it’s not clear if the
freshly announced LG Q70 will ever come to Europe or the US, looking at an exclusive September 6 Korean debut for the time being with a fairly reasonable price tag attached to its name. We’re talking 548,900 won, which roughly converts to $450 right now.
The upper mid-end Android 9.0 handset packs a more than respectable Snapdragon 675 processor, along with 4 gigs of RAM, 64 gigs of internal storage space, microSD support, and a hefty 4,000mAh battery. Of course, the key selling point is a 6.4-inch “FullVision” display sporting a decent resolution of 2310 x 1080 pixels while replacing the notch on LG’s latest high-enders (and apparently, the next flagship model too) with a trendier hole punch design.
Granted, LG is a little late to the party, releasing its first-ever
phone with a small hole drilled into its display almost a full year after
Huawei or
Samsung. It remains to be seen if the company eventually plans to expand this bezel-reducing method to its high-end product lineup, like Samsung did with the Galaxy S10 family. For the time being, it’s worth pointing out that the 6.4-inch Q70 is slightly taller and wider overall than the 6.4-inch
V40 ThinQ, despite technically employing a better method of minimizing the “bezel area that obscures the screen.”
The brand-new mid-ranger is also significantly heavier, at 198 grams, but that’s because it comes with a much larger battery than LG’s latest flagship. The hole punch itself houses a 16MP selfie shooter, while around the back, the LG Q70 features a triple camera system with a 32MP primary lens, 13MP ultra wide snapper, and 5MP depth sensor. That’s certainly not bad for around 450 bucks, and the same goes for the robust military-grade construction, IP68 water resistance, and Hi-Fi Quad DAC technology of the Q70. Let’s hope LG does plan to bring this bad boy to the US someday at a similarly aggressive price point.
