LG's next high-end phone leaks just ahead of its announcement with two different names

For a little while there, it seemed like LG was gearing up for the announcement of a radical V50 ThinQ upgrade dubbed V60 ThinQ. But then a minor G8 ThinQ improvement called G8X ThinQ leaked out and rumors started swirling that was actually the company’s next-gen “Dual Screen” flagship teased for an IFA 2019 launch in Berlin.
As speculated, the LG G8X ThinQ will carry the V50S ThinQ label domestically, further complicating the already convoluted brand identity of the company’s high-end smartphone lineup. Technically, we’re still roughly 24 hours away from the official announcement of this new “foldable” handset, but a Korean media outlet appears to have let the cat out of the bag.
According to no doubt official information obtained by SportsSeoul (translated), the LG V50S ThinQ will “inherit” many of the “key specifications” of the V50 ThinQ 5G, switching however from a triple rear camera system to a dual lens setup presumably borrowed from the G8 ThinQ. The 6.4-inch display may sound familiar to V50 owners, but this time around, LG is employing a small “droplet” (aka waterdrop) notch to further reduce bezels.
Of course, that also means the V50S ThinQ is replacing the dual selfie shooter arrangement of its predecessor with a single front-facing cam, although the new imaging sensor will be upgraded to a 32 megapixel count. The feature that’s expected to help the phone stand out from today’s flagship pack is an optional Dual Screen case, which also includes a 2.1-inch notification “window” on its front allowing you to check the time and see who’s calling or texting you without flipping the accessory open.
Basically, that means the LG G8X ThinQ can go from single to dual to triple screen operation with little to no effort, which might not be as cool or futuristic as the actual foldable experience delivered by the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Fold but still sounds quite practical. And yes, LG apparently plans to bring the Dual Screen attachment to North America along with the G8X ThinQ sometime in October at an unknown price. Of course, the new phone will most likely be cheaper than the V50 ThinQ 5G and stick to 4G LTE support in the US.
