Microsoft isn’t done acquiring companies — after the $7.5 billion acquisition of GitHub, Flipgrid, and a couple of game studios, the company is acquiring another firm this month: Bonsai. The company’s platform allows developers to build machine learning into complex systems without needing to understand all the technicalities through abstraction.

Bonsai builds a deep reinforcement learning platform that is capable of training AI models faster than traditional methods. Bonsai’s platform is capable of performing 45 times faster than Google’s DeepMind, according to Microsoft. The company’s platform can be used for a variety of purposes, ranging from manufacturing to supply chains, and more. “The company is building a general-purpose, deep reinforcement learning platform especially suited for enterprises leveraging industrial control systems such as robotics, energy, HVAC, manufacturing and autonomous systems in general. This includes unique machine-teaching innovations, automated model generation and management, a host of APIs and SDKs for simulator integration, as well as pre-built support for leading simulations all packaged in one end-to-end platform,” Microsoft said in a blog post.

Microsoft says the addition of Bonsai will help the company accelerate the current state of its AI development, and further develop its AI tools and services available to developers.
