Tip: Prime Members Can Save Big on Low-End Kindles
Amazon is offering big discounts on its entry-level Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite e-book readers to Prime members.
It’s not clear how long these prices will last. Or whether this is a hint that the devices, which are both years-old, are about to be updated. But given how expensive the higher-end Kindles are—the Oasis is still a whopping $250 and up—these low-end models look even more attractive than usual now.
Here are the deals.
Kindle. The base-level Kindle e-book reader normally starts at $79.99, but it is now on sale for as little as $49.99. That’s for the “with special offers” version, in black or white. You’ll pay $20 more to remove the ads, but since you can do so at any time, I recommend waiting. They’re not that bothersome, in my opinion.
Kindle Paperwhite. This Kindle improves on the base model by adding backlighting, which I find necessary, a higher-resolution display, which I strongly recommend, and optional cellular networking capabilities for free book downloads. It normally costs $119.99 and up, but now starts at $79.99. Here, you can choose between black and white versions, with or without special offers, and with or without cellular connectivity. So the most you could pay is $169.99 (normally $209.99).
Amazon is also offering some of its Fire Tablets for sale now, but I’m not as big a fan of those as I am of the Kindle e-book readers. The 32 GB 10.1-inch Fire HD 10 Tablet, for example, is normally $149.99, but is now on sale at just $109.99. I’m sure you can figure out how to find stuff on Amazon.com if this interests you.
